Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.

You can create a new profile as a quick test to see if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

Thanks, but all those measures, including a new profile, have been tested to no effect.

As noted earlier in the thread, the same FF version (but 32-bit) on a laptop has identical behavior.

The code that is used is not compatible with Firefox as you can see in the Web Console (Uncaught TypeError: e.path is undefined).

You will have to middle-click the link to open the link in a new tab as a workaround. You can possibly contact the website and ask tho look into this and support composedPath.

Thanks, do see that error in the console here, and that explains the link load failures in that specific page. EDGE and Chrome have no problem with them.

However, the links embedded in the widget, which have worked in the past and still do with a right-click | Open in new tab, don't display that error. They do, however, list...

"The script from “https://quote.cnbc.com/quote-html-webservice/quote.htm?symbols=.DJI|.IXIC|.INX&partnerId=2&requestMethod=quick&exthrs=1&noform=1&fund=1&output=jsonp&events=1&_=1640900260031&callback=cnbcQuotesCallback” was loaded even though its MIME type (“application/json”) is not a valid JavaScript MIME type."

Interestingly, EDGE ignores the widget link - doesn't display it. Chrome does, and the link opens normally.

There are numerous other widget links that do not respond.

For example, this link embedded in a banner on my Protopage homepage works correctly...

https://www.ebay.com/deals?mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5338850217&customid=&toolid=10001&mkevt=1

Immediately next to it, a link in that same banner does not respond to a left click...

https://www.nike.com/us/retail?cp=&gclsrc=aw.ds&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIvLucuIWN9QIVSxZiCh1-vg-OEAEYASAAEgJi7vD_BwE

It seems apparent that this is a FF issue that needs to be addressed, especially since EDGE and Chrome succeed.

96.0.2

Widget links are now responsive via a left-click.

Links in https://electronics.howstuffworks.com/prepaid-cell-phones.htm still require a right-click | OPEN NEW.

Both EDGE and Chrome open those links with a left-click.

I went ahead and submitted a report to the site.

I don't think they work in Safari either, and even if a site doesn't care about Firefox, they probably should care about Safari.

What kind of widget are you using for those links at https://www.protopage.com/ ? None of the ones I saw listed sound like "link" (see attached).

Several update posts were added to this thread, but apparently a moderator chose to delete them.

The widgets are within a module on a personal Protopage page, so you won't see them. As of release 96.0.2 they once again respond normally to a left-click.

The links in this page do not, and must be right-clicked and opened in a new tab or window... https://electronics.howstuffworks.com/prepaid-cell-phones.htm

These links are not the only instance of that behavior; it's been seen on other sites, but rarely.

Earlier in this discussion it was reported that the link code was incompatible with FF. But Chrome and EDGE don't have that issue. Content pops up immediately with a left-click in those browsers.

Okay, false alarm. I thought that was the new problem.

Yes, as I said, I reported to the problem to the site so they can fix their script.

These links are not the only instance of that behavior; it's been seen on other sites, but rarely.

Feel free to mention them as you come across them.

You have one reply from yesterday that is in the spam moderation queue because it has a link to a non-Mozilla site. I guess on the weekends it takes longer to get those approved.
