Immediately after last auto update, some pages go partially black after a few hours, then back to normal briefly, then black again

This has only happened since the very recent update. I work online so have quite a few tabs open, and everything seems fine to begin with. Then after a few hours, some pages go partially or totally black, usually Linkedin and a database I use, and my gmail account. If I go to another tab then back to the 'black' tab, it will clear momentarily, then go black again. Then the whole lot freezes.....'firefox is not responding' or a similar message. I wait till it lets me use the cursor and I shut it down.....leave it a few minutes, then open Firefox again. It is fine again for a few hours till I have to repeat the shut down and reopen again. Any ideas, anyone? Can I uninstall the latest update?

Hello,

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache. Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to. To clear cache and cookies do the following:

  1. (Firefox 57 and above) Click the Library button 57 library icon and choose History.
    (Click the menu button New Fx Menu and choose History in older Firefox versions.)
  2. In the History menu, choose "Clear Recent History...".
  3. Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
  4. Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
  5. From the details list, check Cache and Cookies and uncheck everything else.
  6. Now click the "Clear Now" button.

If it happens again the try to basic troubleshooting steps.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the Cache and remove the Cookies from websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Remove the Cookies" from websites that cause problems:

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data -> Manage Data

"Clear the Cache":

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data -> Clear Data -> Cached Web Content: Clear

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

No, it is still happening. It gives me just over 2 hours of working until it starts freezing, then only showing parts of a page. I close it down, fire it up again and have another 2 hours or so. This only started when the latest edition was automatically updated. I am either going to have to try to find an old Firefox to reinstall, or switch to Chrome. What a pain!
