There was a minor fix released on July 5th: https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/61.0.1/releasenotes/ By default, Firefox silently updates in the background and shouldn't bother you to manually install updates. However, scam websites may try to trick you into installing fake updates. The best prevention for that is a good ad blocker, such as https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/ As with any content blocker, you may find that some pages do not display completely or complain about missing features when using a blocker. If the site looks trustworthy, you can use the add-on's toolbar button to make an exception. Ultimate it's your decision whether life is better with or without the ad blocker. ---- Speaking of extensions, do you recall how you got MapsScout? it may have been part of a bundle with some free software. If you like it and the ads it displays, okay, but if you're not sure, try disabling it. You can view, disable, and often remove unwanted or unknown extensions on the Add-ons page. Either: * Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a) * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons * type or paste '''about:addons''' in the address bar and press Enter/Return In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side. Any extensions Firefox installs for built-in features are hidden from this page, so everything listed here is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage. Anything suspicious or that you just do not remember installing or why? If in doubt, disable (or remove).
