1) This morning I booted my computer; the desktop, my home page, add-ons, new tab tools, everything - I don't know why - had reverted to the default.

2) I figured it was an automatic update, and reentered all my settings.

3) I found my Document, Music, Picture and Video Library files empty; I looked at computer > Local Disk (C:) > Users > Owner for those files, and found all my files there.

4) I could not COPY & paste them to my Document, Music, Picture and Video Library files; the system said I didn't have room, so I CUT & pasted them to my Document, Music, Picture and Video Library files. (In the past, whenever I saved anything to the Document, Music, Picture and Video Library files, the system automatically saved them to the Local Disk (C:) > Users > Owner files as well.)

5) In addition, I cut & pasted many shortcuts and files to my desktop. In the process I deleted a few small files.

6) I changed the size of type; system said I had to reboot. As I knew which files I had deleted, I emptied the recycle bin.

7) After the reboot, ALL the shortcuts and files I moved to the desktop and ALL my Document, Music, Picture and Video Library files were gone!

8) I did a Windows System Restore; it restored the deleted folders, but not their contents.

What a disaster! Is there any way I can restore these lost files? Please help!

Hi when you moved all the files around there was no Restore Point made so that is the reason the files are missing. Restore points are only made when installing, maybe once a day or every couple days. For the future when you do something, search create a restore point.

You maybe able to get something with this program :

For Firefox always :

Pkshadow - Thanks very much for your response; I am saving it for my reference.

I've just now found that you can recover a deleted file in Windows by right-clicking on the folder and using the "Restore previous versions" option.

It'll be slow going doing this for each folder, but at least it seems to be working. Whew...

Thanks again!

Welcome, I did see that but was for Win7 so did not mention it. My Bad.

When you defrag it will delete restore points/system volume shadow copies so is something to remember.

This would be useful for you instead of searching to create. https://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/Restore-Point-Creator/1066295839/1

Good Luck with that.
