migrate from eudora, import mailboxes
This is my wife's Microsoft Window 7 PC. I want to transition her to thunderbird, which is awesome, from Eudora (fully paid version). I know that there is an import function for Eudora mailboxes with thunderbird and I've tried it but it's not working (no response when I select Eudora in the list in the import dialog box). Eudora is still installed and I have made copies of all the mail folders to a folder on the desktop for safety. I also know the (convoluted) path to Eudora's email folders folder. Can you help me? Thanks! -Bryan

just install... do not bother with an uninstall. Profile data, that is setting and mail are not affected by uninstall and reinstall.
The only issue is the calendar will be basically kaput while your using the older version as it will not "downgrade" but it will be Ok again as soon as you go back to V38.

The import was broken by a component update in Geko for the 38 release. At this point I think it has been about decided to abandon Eudora import entirely. going forward. So if you have Eudora to import use Version31.
I will play the odds and guess your will be looking for an EN_US version of V31. http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/31.6.0/win32/en-US/ I think the same error crept into V31.8, so I will play safe and suggest 31.6
Thanks for your quick and very helpful reply! Can I uninstall the 38 release but keep the new (Thunderbird) in and out mailboxes and accounts to use on a release 31 install? Don't want to lose the mail from the last couple of days.

Matt, thank you for your reply. I saw and read these replies also, but my concern is how do I "point" TB to the file created by Aid4Mail. I read of the problems of TB converting the Eudora files into TB. So I found Aid4Mail and it seemed to do a more complete job. Now it creates a file with all the info from Eudora to "copy" all the data into TB. So my question is How do I get TB to process the file. From your reply it appears I have to first install V31 and then process. However, the question still remains, How do I get TB pointed to this file to process it? Thank you!
I said nothing of aid4mail, because I have never heard of it. Googling it today I see no option to convert to Thunderbird from Eudor, so what format is this "file".
Hi Matt,
The "file" is "Imported Mail.Sbd" and is produced when Aid4Mail is run. I set it up with "Input" pointed to "Eudora *.toc", output will go to: "Mozella TB (also Eudora OSE)" and the format will be "CRLF". There is also an "Output" selection to go to "Mozella Mail". The difference seems to be: (1) if sent to "Mozella TB ..." you can read it by feeding it to "Internet Explorer" or "Notepad" or (2) if "Mozella Mail" is selected then feed it also to IE or Notepad to read. The two outputs look the same but the IE one is somewhat formatted and easier to read. Now I took an old email userID I had and trimmed it down so I could email it to you. Lets hope I can do it. It's about 3.8 MB. Oops, it runs and runs but it should have transferred it up by now. So how can I send this file to you?
The SDB should if it is intended for Thunderbird be a folder, not a file. There would also be an :Imported Mail file in the same folder. No file extension. Imported mail.SDB should also contain files with the names of folders with or without files of the same name with an MSF extension. It will also contain further SDB folders, one for each folder that has child folders.
Does that Imported Mail.sdb folder contain anything?
Yes, looks like an email.
Now, how can I send this "sdb" file to you so you can look at it yourself? Thank you.
