When I look at my Trouble Shooting Info this is what I found "Your profile folder contains a user.js file, which includes preferences that were not created by Firefox" I read somewhere that you can make your browser use Adobe instead, I looked everywhere but the solutions, with coding etc, are way over my head. Is there a simple add-on or fix I can apply and if there is no choice but to code, where can I find step to step instructions? Thank you in advance.

What is the content of the user.js file in the Firefox profile folder?

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

Note that Windows hides some file extensions by default. Among them are .html and .ini and .js and .txt, so you may only see file name without file extension. You can see the real file type (file extension) in the properties of the file via the right-click context menu in Windows Explorer.

If you use extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) that can block content (e.g. Adblock Plus, NoScript, Flash Block, Ghostery) then make sure that such extensions aren't blocking content.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
