What's up with FF 20.0.1? Changed everything!
Why so much updates suddenly? Besides the totally screwed up new download thing since version 20.0.0, now within one week there is 20.0.1 which a) screwed up the total layout of FF but more major b) G Data Bankguard is suddenly no more compatible? Many many people are complaining about this way to often changing of versions in Firefox and I can only conclude now that they are right. FF was very strong because it did hold on to some basic things. Why oh why fix things that aren't broke?? The new totaly not logical, confusing download thing is really just a downgrade, can't believe it's implemented the way it is now!! :( After many many years, the way this is going now with FF I am really thinking about going to Chrome because this is becoming ridiculous now on how FF is changing things :( And I am not alone in this, just take a look at https://input.mozilla.org where for the last 7 days 89% (!!) is sad about the new version!!

Hi meegja, version 20.0.1 was supposed to be a very minor fix compared with Firefox 20.0. You shouldn't have experienced huge changes.
a) Could you explain the problem you have with your Firefox layout? If it can't be described in words, could you post a screenshot? This article has some tips: How do I create a screenshot of my problem?
b) I don't have G Data BankGuard. Are there any updates available from the publisher? http://www.gdatasoftware.co.uk/upgradecenter.html
Regarding the change from the Download Manager to the Download Panel, you can find a complete write-up here: Where to find and manage downloaded files in Firefox.
If you can't get used to it, or don't want to get used to it, there is a way to revert back to the old download manager. See: Got new version, want to go back to previous download box.
By the way, thank you for the link to the input site. I've never visited it before.
Is there an option to go back to version before 20.0.0? This whole 20.0.0 an up thing is really irritating me. Mainly because perfectly great things are screwed up now. I know how to go back to the normal logical download but the fact alone that this new downagrade download thing is here makes no sense at all!! The G Data Bankguard is a normal included function of G Data software which is not working anymore since 20.0.1. It's an online banking security fuature which suddenly is not working anymore now. And ofcourse there is no update since FF is changing way and way to often in updates: from 20.0.0 to 20.0.1 in one week. How is other software ever be able to keep up with that (much heared complained about FF now)
Edit: about the layout: I use the LittleFox mod for layout since the newly introduced layout few months ago really sucked IMHO. Now with 20.0.1 that add on is also not working anymore while 20.0.0 is was still okay. So I am getting the ugly default FF layout now.
Modified
All past releases of Firefox are available, but for security reasons, it is not advised to install old ones -- after each release, Mozilla publicly discloses the security flaws in older versions.
For G Data Bankguard, I think you need the "2014" version described in this thread: http://www.securityexperten.com/frage/9380/
For LittleFox -- if you mean this one: Littlefox for Firefox -- it seems to work on mine (20.0.1 on Win7). I've attached the very cramped looking screen shot for reference. This you can update using:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > "gear" icon > Check for Updates
Perhaps not the correct place or way to add to the discussion, however still in the realm of "What's up with FF 20.0.1? Changed..." In my case, the last auto-update (to 20.0.1) changed the language from en-US to Spanish" of its own volition and won't switch to "Angles [en-US]" even when so instructed, nor even when all other language options are removed. What's up with that? Any solution - besides resetting? Thanks. John ========== FYI: Preferències modificades importants

Hi JohnWankel, I don't know how that happened. Download error by the update service?
One way to change your browser UI language is to run a new installer without uninstalling your existing setup. It should work, but a backup wouldn't be a bad idea just in case it changes to something even stranger.
Please see:
WHEN UPGRADING MEANS DOWNGRADING
It seems to be the meme of the 21st century to reduce functionality with each and every new release of a software package. Every release of Windows since XP has had essential functionality taken out that was relied upon by millions of power users. We had Vista, Win7 and now Win8 moronified, in order to adapt functionality to the lowest common denominator: use by the most digitally challenged on the most simple of modern cellphones. Lately this trend has been picked up bij M$ Outlook and now even it's impossible to print your agenda in M$ Calendar with the new cubist 'tile look and feel'.
Who would have thought thad FF would be a trendfollower in this too? Less information uses more space. 'Looks' over usability anytime nowadays. Harder to find too, sometimes. Less functionality in more keystrokes/actions. Productivity is the big loser in this innovation game.
Well, I don't really crave to have the command line power of DOS back, but there is a middle road. What purpose could possibly be served by taking out the most basic, useful functionality from tried and tested software? This question really keeps me puzzled.
UPDATE: The story gets more grim.
After opening the download window the clumsy way (it used to have a setting that opened it by default), I did a keyword search and got results that had about 70% of the time no trace of the keyword in any part of the results. Such functionality should not be influenced with interface adaptations or other "enhancements", I think?
After going to the provided link of FF input, after a successful registration by means of Persona, there's no way I can log in. It is not easy not to get irritated. Why is it, that everytime I try do do simple actions that millions of people must do many times a day, I fail miserably, only to be (kindly) treated by helpdeskers as if I were the only one having te problem. Then, on fora , I discover lots of people who are also 'the only one's' with the same problem.
Less energy into glossy looks please, more into robust, sturdy, simple, intuitive, familiar and relied upon functionality!!
P.S. Another one of my favorite sites that I used to visit on a daily basis: Allmusic, is totally useless after having been revamped. Am I an anachronism in this new web era? Are the majority and the new generations really happy with these looks-are-everything-forget-about-usability trends?
end of rant Sorry

Agree with rstalling. Although innovation and/or keeping a product up to date is difficult and a lot of work is done for it (compliments for the FF developers for that), sometimes it's way overdone and it back fires. Windows 8 indeed being a good example of that: it just is not working for normal PC's and is also (maybe the main) cause of low PC sells. Sadly enough FF is going in the same direction. Sure, it can not stay the same all the time. Sure, the interface and functionality must follow nowadays standards. But please FF, don't overdo it. The new download manager is a perfect example of that. The functionality of it is flushed down the drain for plain old eye candy (because that is what that is IMHO).
