The file upload browser window is bigger than my screen
I'm using Firefox 3.6.12 on an OpenSuse 11.1 system, with fvwm 2.4 as my window manager. When I upload a file via an upload field, as soon as I click in the filename text entry, a file browser pops up, which is larger than my (already large) screen, so I can't see what I'm doing, and just have to type the filename blind. How can I get the file browser to come up at a sensible size, or disable it altogether so that I can just type the file name into the text entry?

You really should try SUSE support for help with that problem, as it sounds like a problem with the file browser, rather than Firefox. Plus, the version of Firefox you have installed is a modified version, and not an official Mozilla Linux build.
Personally, I am a real noob with Ubuntu, and I don't know of a helper at this forum who uses SUSE, so I'd be surprised if anyone else here would be able to provide an answer.
The file browser is a widget within Firefox. And I have the same issue at work under Scientific Linux 5.5, so I don't think it's a Suse problem. More likely it's an interaction with the window manager: fvwm is a classic, ICCCM compliant window manager without any of the modern additions in gnome/kde etc.
Can't you resize that window via the system menu (Alt + Space) or by dragging the window title bar to the left to reach the right border?
Since the window is larger than the screen, neither the title bar nor the borders are within reach of the mouse. (Nor does Alt+Space mean anything.) I could resize the window by injecting configure events programmatically; but what I'd like is for Firefox (or the underlying widget set) to work.
