When I try to add a label to my email, the labels tab does not bring up my list of labels to choose from or the ability to create a new label. I have to use another browser to label my emails.

Hi, see if this is the issue : SHIELD ICON Tracking Protection

One issue that seems more common lately is Firefox's Tracking Protection feature. When it is blocking content in a page, a shield icon will appear at the left end of the address bar next to the padlock icon. This article has more info on managing this feature: Tracking Protection https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/tracking-protection

We don't use AVAST or AVG. We have McAffee. And I do not get any error message or popup. Clicking the 'label' tab results in nothing. That is why I did not send a screenshot,; there was nothing to see. I see that in chrome the list of labels is now a popup window rather than a dropdown list. This is in the new look for gmail. That is when the problem first began.
