My Profile Folder has a duplicate profile folder within the main folder
Some time in the past my Profile Folder got very large. It is now 17 Gig. Today I was trying to delete a lot of old folders within my email content and the size of the files to be deleted was about 1.8 GB which did not make any sense. I then looked into the content of the main profile folder and found the duplicate profile folder. I went back a year or so and found old Profiles that did not have a duplicate profile folder within the main folder. See attached Screenshots. Pic 17 is the current main Profile (17.0 GB, 563 Files and 56 Folders), Pic 18 is the main profile opened and you can see there is a duplicate profile folder (6.91 GB, 278 Files and 26 Folders) within the main folder). Pic 19 is the duplicate folder opened. Before I delete the duplicate folder in a test mode to see what happens, can you offer any reasons why this may have occurred and what may happen when the duplicate folder is deleted? Thanks (8/5/17)

That would be exactly my question to you. These things don't happen out of the blue. So it's most likely related to something you did.

I guess you'll find out. Just make sure to create a full profile backup prior to start messing with it. https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profiles-where-thunderbird-stores-user-data#w_backing-up-a-profile
I'd probably start from scratch, i.e. create a new profile, and set up the account(s) again in the new profile. https://support.mozilla.org/kb/using-multiple-profiles
If needed you can still carry over data manually from the old to the new profile. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Thunderbird
