Some email programs show number of emails in & out why doesn't T'bird

In many email programs (eg SeaMonkey, etc) in the left hand panel where you select the "folder" to view the emails in it dhows the folder name (eg "Inbox" and to the right of this it shows the number of emails in that folder (eg 2,343). If there are any unopened emails this number is boldfaced. How can I access this feature in Thunderbird? Does such a feature even exist in T/bird? If not why not?
