I've read responses to previous questions on this topic and can't seem to get anywhere. I can't find C:\Users\Windows user name\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\Profile name\ as under my user name on my C drive I have no folder called "AppData" and "Roaming" only contains a folder "Intel".

See https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-tb#w_how-to-find-your-profile to locate your profile. Then using your file explorer look in that same directory to see if you have any other profiles as well. The profiles have a filename of the form xxxxxxxx.default
