Firefox 22 shows blank pages

more options

After upgrading to Firefox 22 on my phone, all web pages are shown as blank in the main browser (just a black window).

I know the pages have loaded because I can see their thumbnails if I go to the "Tabs" screen, also if I tap randomly on the screen I can "click" on invisible hyperlinks and load a new page.

It's definitely a problem with 22, if I revert to 21 (using titanium backup) everything works fine.

The problem is on a "Sony Xperia go" (Model ST27i) mobile, I have no problems on my Nexus 7 tablet. It's running GB 2.3.7, it's rooted.

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache. The Firefox cache temporarily stores images, scripts, and other parts of websites while you are browsing.
Note: This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to. To clear cache and cookies, do the following:

  1. Tap the menu icon located at the top right corner. This is the icon with 3 bars. On older Android devices you'll have to press the hardware menu key and then tap More.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. After that, you will be taken to the settings screen. In the settings screen, look under the section Privacy & Security and select Clear private data.
  4. You will then be taken to a list of what can be cleared. Select the following 2 for deletion:
    • Cookies & active logins
    • Cache
  5. After those have been selected, tap the Clear data button to actually clear the cache and cookies.

Spoke too soon, after 15 mins browsing last night the blank pages returned. Had to revert to 21 again.

Hi, whether it happens to particular website or all ?

Once it started happening, it affected all pages I tried to load.

Did you try with the Beta version?

more options

No, I didn't know there was a beta available, I'll look for it & try.

After a bit more experimenting I notice the following ...

-- I can fix the problem by clearing the cache only.

-- I can then browse a few websites (less than 10) before the blank pages start appearing, there's no particular web site that triggers it.

-- If I then go into settings and try to clear the cache, Firefox hangs and eventually I get the "Not responding" message from Android and force-closes the app.

-- I restart Firefox, go into Settings and clear the cache again, this time I get the "Private data cleared" from Firefox and it starts rendering pages correctly again.

-- The cycle repeats.

I will try the beta.

Have installed the beta version (23.0), it seems fine, haven't been able to provoke the blank pages to appear yet, will keep trying.

BUT: It hasn't got my bookmarks in it, is there a way to load them from FF 21 or 22 ?
