Every time I restart firefox, it indicates update is available which successfully installs. But when I restart, same message appears every time and history is lost as well.

hi obviously this must be a settings issue therefore click on firefox (yellow button on left top) and go to settings. then please navigate to privacy and select that firefox will create a browsing history. that should fix the browsing history issue. for the updates please check which version you are currently using; clicking on the firefox button then on help and then about firefox to ensure that you have version 21. if you do not have the current version 21 please uninstall firefox from your pc but ensure that you do select that personal data is not deleted during the uninstallation process such that bookmarks etc will be saved and install firefox downloaded (before the uninstallation at www.firefox.com ) good luck michael

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

  • Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.
