I just updated Firefox to v 17.0.1 When it restarted a message from Java said Permission to work with files was denied. I never seen this before. So I closed FF and reopened it and the same message appeared again. (note: This message was not there when I 1st opened FF before I updated it)

Even tho the message pops up, I am still able to open and use FF.

Chosen solution

To avoid confusion:

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

hello iwish40, maybe this error message is coming from an outdated extension - can you try to replicate this behaviour when you launch firefox in safe mode once?

No it did not help, I put in safe mode as directed. then tried to open FF and the message::: Java Script Application:: Permission to work with files was denied. so I took a screen print so you could see it.

What should I do? Take out FF and reinstall. this only happened after I downloaded the update.

I reset FF back to Original state..That seems to have fixed the problem.

Thanks so much for your help!!
