I have Firefox 15.0.1 with the following extensions installed: - Tab Mix Plus 0.4.0.2 - Session Manager 0.7.9 The Session Manager handles my sessions and restores them if Firefox was closed not properly. If I download "Firefox Setup 16.0.1.exe" or "Firefox Setup 16.0.2.exe", then close the Firefox 15.0.1, then run either "Firefox Setup 16.0.1.exe" or "Firefox Setup 16.0.2.exe", I have the following issue after Firefox becomes open: 1) I see both the "Firefox" button (which is usually shown instead of the main menu and the window title) and the window title at the same time! 2) I do not see previous tabs and the button "Restore previous session" does not work at all! Please understand me: complete inability to access my previously opened pages - even if I click them one-by-one from Session Manager - just drives me crazy! (When I click some URL in Session Manager, just nothing happens, absolutely nothing.) The only solution I have for this is to uninstall Firefox 16.0.x and re-install the 15.0.1 - then I have all my previous tabs back after I restart Firefox. So I'm still on 15.0.1 now. My OS is Windows XP SP3 x86.

Chosen solution

  1. Update SessionManager to 0.7.9.1 - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/session-manager/versions/
  2. Update TMP to 4.0.3 (released July 18, 2012) - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/tab-mix-plus/

The comment on the Add-ons page about Session Manager not working with Firefox 16 is not the case. I use Session Manager everyday and have not experienced a problem with Firefox 16 (or prior), and it also works with Firefox 17 (beta) and 18 (aurora).

What the heck is this install reinstall all about? Firefox comes with a handy dandy tool called Update.

The extension cannot restore saved sessions in Firefox 16.0.1.

Try to start Firefox in Safe mode via one of these methods:

  • On Windows, hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox with a double-click on the Firefox desktop shortcut
  • On Mac, hold down the Options key while starting Firefox
  • Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

You can also check for problems with the localstore.rdf file.

TheOldFox, thank you very much!!! You know, you are my hero for the moment! :) Indeed, I had previous versions of both Tab Mix Plus and Session Manager - and for some reason Firefox did not even try to update them. Once I've updated these extensions manually (by finding their web-sites and installing the latest versions), I have completely successful further installation of Firefox 16.0.2. All my tabs are with me! Let the Shwartz be with you! (c) Spaceballs

P.S. So the issue seems to transform into the following: why Firefox did not automatically detect the updates of Tab Mix Plus and Session Manager though I am sure Firefox was detecting them before?

Glad the information that I provided helped to solve your problem.

Be sure Add-ons are set up update automatically. The installation default in current Firefox versions is to have Add-ons update automatically (silently) while you browse, but the user can change that for all Add-ons (first item below) or for one or more selected Add-ons (second item below):

  • Firefox button (or Tools) > Add-ons > Extensions, click the "gear" symbol to the left of the search box on the Add-ons display, verify that "Update Add-ons Automatically" is checked, if not click that item to place a check mark.
  • While on the Add-ons > Extensions display you may also want to click the "gear" symbol and click "Reset All Add-ons to Update Automatically" just below the item above. This will reset any that you have manually set to not update automatically on an individual basis. That is done by clicking "More" next to each/any Add-on, scroll to the bottom and look at the selection for "Automatic Updates" (Default, On, Off). To return to the Add-ons > Extensions list, click the back arrow on your Firefox Navigation toolbar.
