when opening up a website, a second window always opens. Why?

after installing firefox 4.0.1 I select a website to open. When the original request brings up the screen, a secondary window always opens with the same website opening. I always find that I have to close the secondary window and move forward. This happens every time a windows opens.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
