Firefox keeps sticking an upgrade window on my desctop which I cant remove unless I force quit. I cant upgrade because when I try it says the upgraded version wont work on my comp. How do I get rid of this blasted upgrade window which is preventing me from using firefox properly.

You are correct. Firefox 4 will not work with you operation system, OSX 10.4 and you should not try to install Firefox 4.

However, you appear to have Firefox 3.6 installed, the first in the 3.6 series. The latest version in the 3.6 series is 3.6.16. You should upgrade to the latest 3.6.16 version of Firefox:
