Thunderbird 78.0 beta 4 - Issues with AT&T Yahoo Mail

more options

It looks like ever since the 78.0 beta 4 upgrade, I CANNOT receive email from my email provider AT&T-Yahoo. I've tried many different configuration changes and nothing has provided a solution. For some reason Thunderbird cannot send the correct password to the servers, to send\receive email messages. Error Message: "Sending of password for user [email protected] did not succeed. Mail server x.x.x responded: Server error - Please try again later."

I have many email accounts configured in Thunderbird for my profile, but the AT&T-Yahoo accounts are the only ones affected. My Google and Hotmail still work just fine.

Has anyone else experienced this issue or can assist. Thank you in advance.

Chosen solution

I don't think this is an issue specific to the beta version, rather, one related to the authentication method. If you use the AT&T servers inbound.att.net and outbound.att.net, and the authentication method is 'normal password', you must use a 'secure mail key' in place of the account password. If you connect through the Yahoo servers, use the account password and OAuth2 authentication.

sfhowes, Thank You Very Much for the response, it was spot on. I don't know when the email client parameters requirements(Thunderbird for example) changed, but for the AT&T\Yahoo servers the Secure Mail Key is required to be used as the password.

I recently started getting this error too--on 11/17/20, when TB updated to version 78.5.0.

Tried to update to secure mail key, and still no luck. Both incoming & outgoing servers are set to normal password authentication. I'm using the correct ATT Pop server settings. Deleted saved passwords, restarted TB, tried to re-enter the SMK, but keeping getting the same error message. I can access my mail through att.net, so that's OK. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
