The AUTO UPDATE did its thing 2 days ago. Bookmarks are gone, No way to reinstall them. No way to Create Bookmarks either. And the whole thing runs like I pored molasses into the computer. takes over 30 seconds just to click on book marks and have it show anything.

and even a refresh of the home page on Bing.com takes at least 30 seconds.

I can recover my bookmarks to Chrome. But I cant do ANYTHING with BOOKMARKS. not even reloading them from Chrom

hi, sorry for those issues - we're currently getting a couple of similar user reports and are looking into the issue. could you try performing a clean reinstall and see if this is making any difference in regards to the bookmark/performance problem?:

  • download the full firefox setup file from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
  • uninstall firefox on the machine
  • manually delete all remaining files in the firefox program folder, which usually resides in C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\
  • reinstall firefox

thank you!

If the Places Maintenance extension can't repair the places.sqlite database then remove all places.sqlite file(s) in the Firefox profile folder to make Firefox rebuild the places.sqlite database from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

You can create a new profile to test if your current profile is causing the problem with the bookmarks.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems (maybe exclude places.sqlite, but use the compressed .jsonlz4 in the bookmarkbackups folder).

In an attempt to verify the places database I got the following message:

> Task: checkIntegrity - Unable to check database integrity > Task: checkCoherence - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: expire - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: vacuum - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: stats - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task. > Task: _refreshUI - The task queue was cleared by an error in another task.

hi, at the moment the only remedy seems to be a downgrade to 54.0.1: https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/54.0.1/win64/

if you'd be willing to help us troubleshoot the issue, please let us know!

this is more than just bookmarks, which is still not working in ANY WAY, I cant even create a Bookmark now. But bing is super laggy. 30 to 60 seconds to load EVERY TIME I click

If you still have Firefox 55 installed, open Help > About Firefox to trigger a manual check for the update to 55.0.1 which was just released to solve a variety of issues.

...not the bookmarks issue though - that is still under investigation.

one more question: when you type "about:profiles" into your firefox address bar what is the full path of your profile shown in the root folder column?

ok finally getting back to this lovely problem.

First, the only way for me to get bookmarks back was to go to 54.01.

BUT there is a new problem with all this,

DOES NOT MATTER WHICH UPDATE I USE 54.01 or 55.01 But I am NOT ABLE to open a PRIVATE WINDOW. Whether it is the old keyboard SHIFT+CNTRL+P or the new keyboard SHIFT+CNTL+N, or Menu File > New Private Window.

And with all these problems with version 55. The most frustrating is the SPEED reduction. svchost.exe for NETWORK, Host process for Windows services as been turned into a CPU hungry monster. It began the moment 55.0 updated. 35 to 51% of my cpu is now normal for this process. And it does not matter what browser I use now. this process has essentially killed my computer for any real work. Does not go away on a restart, reboot, Forced reboot. The best I have been able to do is reduce its priority in the processing.

keep giving me suggestions. as these problems seem to grow off the 55.0 version update

I have also attempted using both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of firefox

I have installed 55.0.1 32 bit, 64 bit NO Change, and PRIVATE WINDOWS dont work in either. I went back to 54.0.1 and that lets bookmarks work, but NOT the PRIVATE WINDOWS.

Creating a new profile allows me to finally use PRIVATE WINDOWS, But BOOKMARKS do NOT WORK still.

GOODBYE Firefox

Well, Mozilla Foundation, Thanks for the trip. I have enjoyed your product for many years. Unfortunately, ver 55. just is not compatible with my system it would seem. No Bookmarks, or No Private Window. Plus, something activated my widows Svchost.exe to a point where it is now 51% of my cpu processes most of the time. Essentially, my computer is dead now. more than a minute to just load FF.

Good luck and I wish you all the best.
