I do the following steps: - start thunderbird 45.4.0 (Linux) - select "addressbook" - "new contact" - create a contact including a birthday (date of birth) - "Extras -> Export..." - output format "vCard" - choose a name and , e.g. "myphonebook" click "save" - open "myphonebook.csv" in a text editor => The exported vCard does not include any information about the birthday. Reimporting it somewhere else will lead to loss of this information.

Expected: The export should contain a line starting with "BDAY".

Is this a programming bug? Where should this be reported?

Slightly confused about this comment..open "myphonebook.csv" If you saved as a vcard then it should not be .csv, it should be .vcf.

I'm using windows vista and tested various results. In standard Thunderbird.

  • In 'Address Book'
  • select contact or address book
  • Tools > Export
  • select folder
  • Give suitable filename with .vcf extension
  • Save as TYpe: vcard(*.vcf)
  • click on 'Save'
  • Open using text editor 'Notepad'

notice each contact is listed. Details contain: Name, email address and tel no. No details about eg: home address or bithday. No ability to create a vcard for an individual.

However, I use an addon extension 'MoreFunctionsForAddressBook' as it offers a few more options: To create a .vcf file for one contact:

  • Open 'Address Book'
  • select address book
  • right click on the contact in the list
  • select 'Export' > 'as vcard(.vcf)'
  • Choose folder where to save - click on 'select folder'

OR via toolbar

  • select contact
  • Tools > MoreFunctionsforAddressBook > Action for Contacts > Export > as vcard(.vcf)

Locate that folder It contains Contact 'name.vcf' file Opened uisng eg: text editor notepad.

Details show Name, Address, Tel No, email address, website url, Bday.

There is also additional options from toolbar for Exporting the address book contacts in vcf format.

  • select address book
  • Tools > MoreFunctionsforAddressBook > Action for address book > Export as vcf
  • choose where to save
  • Filename should be auto name of addressbook.vcf
  • SAve as type should auto select vcf option.
  • click on SAve

Open using a text editor: Each person is listed. Details show Name, Address, Tel No, email address, website url, Bday.

Suggest you install 'MorefunctionsForAddressBook' to be able to create individual vcards for contacts and also entire address book.
