[solved] Thunderbird sends receipts when downloading messages from imap server to localhost despit 'never send receipt' settings
I access my email with a webmail client (Outlook) and also Thunderbird on PC (Windows 7) linked to an IMAP server.
When emails are old I download them to the PC using 'move' to put them in a folder on the 'localhost' .
I found today moving a batch of messages from 2012 that I was getting replies of 'mail address unknown for messages I had not sent' - what is happening is that when I download the messages from the IMAP server and transfer them to the PC read receipt messages are being sent. This is annoying as I have all the settings set for 'never send read receipt' - (in global settings with all accounts pointing at global settings).
Any help would be greatly appreciated
An example of an undeliverable error that I got due to a read receipt being sent is below with email addresses/identifiers removed.

Ok, good point, - but the exchange server does not send out receipts.... I checked in the settings and it says 'ask me to send receipt' so I have changed this to 'never send a receipt' and I will test it...
...so I have just downloaded a large bunch of messages. No evidence of read requests sent so far being bounced back. So at the moment it looks as if this problem is fixed,
many thanks for your help....
I have not done a thorough check with specific messages that ask for responses, but it looks like changing the exchange option from 'ask me to send receipt' to 'never send a receipt' has worked
