When attachements in emails are opened via thunderbird itself, those opened files could be seen inside the downloads window, activated thru (ctrl + J) shortcut. However, if I click save or Save all button instead of clicking on the open button, those files are not visible in the download window. I have to manually browse to that location using windows explorer. Is this a bug, or am I not looking at it the right way?

The open places a copy in your temp folder. It should also delete it when your select to close the document. The download window does not open unless you ask it, because it is only displaying temporary information.

Saving files permanently in the Temp folder is a recipe for disaster, so I hope your never navigating there to save files.

Basically the download window is for Firefox and is not disabled, but not really used in Thunderbird.

Dear Matt, then there is no other way, other than navigating to where i had saved the file manually? I mean do we have any addon or extension to check where i had saved it?

my copy of Thunderbird defaults each time to the last place I saved something in Thunderbird.

My copy of windows explorer has a recent places and a downloads folder. I just use windows explorer for my file activity after a save stuff.

Have you tried holding shift while you click to start? Perhaps it is an add-on or theme that makes yours so different.
