I just updated to 29.0. Now I have popup ads in all windows and full popup windows at some sites. I didn't create a restore point because I always trusted FF but never had this type of problem before...... Former Netscape user. Been with you for a long time.

I just want to go back to where I was before I selected "update FF". P.S. I use Ad block plus 2.5.1 but don't see the icon anymore....

Thank You!

I didn't get it from anywhere. When I started FF it did the auto download and install to downgrade form 28 to 29. Some tardball at FF released a beta version into the channel is what happened.

The easiest fix is to disable auto-upgrade then get the 28 version install from the link I posted. DO NOT go back in and turn on auto update.

How is everyone getting 29 so early? Where did you download Firefox 29 from? Mozilla hasn't officially released it yet.

Seriously, you can just download the previous version

It's not a beta version, 29.0 was released earlier than typical which is usually on a Tuesday at ~8 am PDT.

Whether it is or is not beta, it has a LOT of things that are now broken and is a horrible example of production software. If this were commercial software, the entire development team would be fired on the spot.

Me too. I just downloaded 28.0. So how do I install it over 29.0? Do I just click the install exe?

I turned off autoupdates. I'll deal with updating later -- but I'm in the middle of projects tonight.

An Update:

I was able to use the link to download version 28.0. Then I saved my profile. And ran the 28.0 exe after turning off all my programs and exiting FF. It installed just fine. I didn't need to remove 29.0 first.

Now I've got the old tabs.

The new "slick" tabs are horrible. I want a version where I can switch back to the old set up.

Plus something changed with fonts. I can't read anything. And 100% is too much, 90% is too little.

An update

I reverted to 28.0. Maybe there's be an add on soon to 29.0 with better tab formatting, for those of us who can't stand the new version? Also with fonts or zoom set to the way they were on webpages.

One big factor - the old tabs kept the colored icons for each page, so it was much easier to look through.

The top of page has what path I'm on.

I dont' need a chart on the right without options to remove it.

My 2 cents!!

I made the mistake of upgrading to version 29.0. Thanks to the link supplied I was able to get version 28.0 back and shut off updates. Hey Mozilla - If I wanted Chrome I would have downloaded Chrome.

New isn't always better. Are you trying to keep yourself employed? Try fixing the old one and lay of "new".

I too reverted to version 28 after struggling with version 29 for a few days.

I didn't like having to use the Classic Theme Restorer add-on just to restore sensible features of version 28, such as being able to reposition the tabs bar and forward-back arrows. I was also having problems with numerous websites that would not load correctly - e.g., Yahoo Email was constantly hanging during loading and could not attach files.

Yahoo Email was just one example. The problems with website behavior were so variable and widespread that debugging all of them seemed like an endless task. Why should I have to do all that in order to fix the issues with version 29?

So I opted for the Occam's Razor solution. Since everything went down the tubes when Firefox was upgraded to version 29, I reverted to version 28.

Now things are back to normal.

This was an unusual experience for me with Firefox. I don't remember an "upgrade" that caused so much trouble.

I'll be sticking with version 28 until I see favorable reports on improvements to version 29, or newer versions that work.
