Firefox 22 keeps crashing after I updated it. Scripts keep freezing. I also updated shockwave, etc. (addons). Did not have this issue before updating.

After the latest FF update every page seems to freeze up and I get script error pop ups that cause the FF browser to hang forever. Only happened after updating FF and shockwave, I have had to disable shockwave flash which seems to fix the problem, but I can't watch videos. I had to add the NoScript addon just to see browser pages... not very good as it kills pretty much everything. Also I noticed that the newest version of java deployment kit has been rendered UNSAFE by FF. Why, and what to do about that issue also? Thanks.

Hello,

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

I tried that as it was recommended on another site. It did not solve the issue...

Hello,

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.

Thank you.

Hello tuatha, try to install the latest flash : http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

and then disable hardware acceleration in Flash , see more info :

Playing Flash videos makes Firefox hang, then check firefox again, if the problem exist then Turn off Firefox hardware acceleration also.

the java Deployment Toolkit, it is not necessary to activate it, blocking the Java DT plug-in does not mean the Java plug-in is blocked, see : What is the Java Deployment Toolkit?, more useful it is for developers.

thank you

Safe mode does not work. Updated to the flash above and it freezes even more - solid crap out. Safe mode too, craps out...

In safe mode I am getting script error pop ups...

I can't even load a damn page in FF currently to change the hardware acceleration... this is getting irritating...

Yes. However, I was not getting them prior to the update. I don't want to get rid of scripts as most sites use scripts these days. I have no issues with IE...

tuatha, check the above document.

The combination of a recent Windows update and the Flash player plugin's protected mode caused pages to hang for me with the eventual script error.

I think it is a microsoft update, i get no errors running on linux, so it must be some (once again) update messing with Firefox Flash.
