my Google default search engine has suddenly changed into BING search which I ever dislike in my life!! whenever I types a word in the address bar. I used all available solutions (about:config, disabling all bing pugins, uninstalling bing, removing zugo and search in the control panel) but to no avail. I am completely depressed. Pleas help me regain back Google. Thanks.

I did all that was stated in the instruction but all ended up in a fiasco!! Who told Microsoft that everybody want to use BING (shit). This is a bullshit way of promoting this search engine.

Please help me remove this bing thing. Thanks.

Bing has imposed itself as my search engine and i like Google. I will change to Apple if i have to.

control panel / remove program / if you do not see bing toolbar, look for a toolbar naming a function on the same toolbar to the right of the bing window and delete it.

I too have been hijacked by MS's Bing. I have tried several things to take it off my Firefox search. I have taken it off Add-ons, went to control panel and removed it from my "Add or Remove," I have also went to my internet options and made sure that my search engine was not Bing(which it was defaulted as) to be sure it was Google. I did a restart and boom..."I did it!" NOPE, I still have problems when I just type in the address bar such as "AutoTrader," I get a Bing list of links. I am so **** tired of MS taking over! Let me make my own decisions! HELP PLEASE!

ok... so this was bugging me like WHOA, especially because when I would open a new tab, there is the bing bar... when i would try to open an email from my browser the message would immediately disappear to be replaced by this dam bing bar. Soo... I went searching in my program files folder and in C:\Program Files I found a folder labled simply "search bar". Opened it up and there was an uninstal program there (program said it was powered by Zugo i believe) Turns out this is the bing update. Ran the uninstall program and voila!! Everything is back to normal, no more bing toolbar showing up in my browser.

I am having the same problem. Very frustrating!!! So this is how MS wants to do business now i guess. By hijacking to promote its search engine.

this is crazy. my home page was automatically switched. my tool bar was automatically changed, all t his without my approval. I went to check my control panel to see why my home page has changed, and their was a bing url address where my google address should have been. Who the hell switched my stuff around!!

Following is a long thread about the topic. Instructions there on how to properly uninstall everything "Live Essentials", "Bing", etc. If you do not uninstall all of that Microsoft "crapware", you will continue to get the updates for it. First happened in January/February 2010 MS Updates.

Also, when downloading or installing ANY software, read carefully and watch for option(s) to opt-out of installing extras (i.e., search toolbars, security scanners, etc.). Free software sites receive payment for each installation of such "crapware" when someone installs the "free" software.

I personally have NO extra toolbars installed. Most will eventually cause you problems.

I am not exactly sure how I did it but I at least got the Bing picture off my homepage. I went to Add-Ons and deleted anything having to do with Bing or toolbar and it disappeared. I disabled two Add Ons, unfortunately I can't remember what they were. If I can find out I will reply back. I don't exactly know what I am doing. I am definitely a novice.  :)

Okay, I figured it out. Go to Tools at the top of the page and then go to Add Ons - I disables "Browser defender" and "Search toolbar". I am still trying to get the Bing search engine off.

If you click on the icon in the search area, it will show all of your installed search engines, and then you'll be able to select google or go to "manage search engines" and install google for the search bar

Thank you so much! I went to 2 "experts" pages whose answers did not do the trick. But yours did! I spent time getting an account on this website just so that I could thank you. Thank you!!!

Firefox is a choice. If they are going to impose Bing on people and make it difficult to get rid of it then just start using Chrome. The Webkit browsers are better anyway. As a developer I appreciate Mozilla's developer tools but even IE9 looks and behaves better than Firefox does these days. If you don't own a Mac and you don't like Google then try Opera. People don't like to be manipulated.
