FF 3.6 crashes on start up, same with safe mode, but FF 3.0 worked

Upgrading to FF 3.6 will now crash on start up. It also crashes on start up trying FF in safe mode. I upgraded from 3.0 because it was the only version that would work for me, but since there is still a crashing problem, I always have to go back to 3.0.

Sorry, that crash report couldn't be retrieved.

Does the Crash Reporter indicate success when you submit? Try getting a few more submitted and paste them here: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Mozilla+Crash+Reporter#Viewing_reports_outside_of_Firefox

If you can get to the Profile Manager without crashing, try a new profile: Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles Follow the directions to create a new profile temporarily for troubleshooting. Don't delete your old (default) profile.

Leads to: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=434403

There are two possible causes. Either you are running a piece of monitoring software called Spector Pro on your computer, or you have a trojan (malware).

Lets try the trojan first. Following the guidelines at https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox+crashes+when+you+open+it#Backdoor_Ulrbot_C I've identified a file in your Modules list, mp3otdde.dll, as a candidate for being the cause of this crash.

  1. Search your computer for mp3otdde.dll
  2. Upload this file to http://virusscan.jotti.org/ - If it does identify it as a trojan (Backdoor.Ulrbot or similar):
  3. Boot into Windows Safe Mode (see above link for instructions)
  4. Locate and rename or delete mp3otdde.dll
  5. Boot back into normal Windows and try starting Firefox.

I would also consider a full scan with each of these free malware scanners: http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php - Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware http://www.superantispyware.com/ - SuperAntispyware http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html - Spybot Search & Destroy http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/defender/default.mspx - Windows Defender: Home Page
