On Windows 10 TB v91.12.0 username and password are working. But username is not full email address.

Access:

  • Menu icon > Preferences > Privacy & Security
  • Under 'Passwords'
  • click on 'Saved Passwords'
  • click on 'Show Passwords'
  • Right click on imap :// line and choose 'Edit Username'
  • Completely clear contents and enter your full email address.
  • Repeat the same for the smtp:// line
  • clickon 'Done'

Exit and then Restart Thunderbird

Does receiving and sending work ?

I am on a clean install windows 11 so it cant be that Thunderbird has some old server configuration settings.

The server settings are correct see youtube movie with 91.12.0

Thunderbird 19.12.0 always set the username hi0508 and logs in, it always did as long i can remember with version 102.1.2 this doesnt work that is what u see in the youtube movie.

So why is in version 102.1.2 the username set to hi0508 but cant loggin? And why does version 91.12 set the username to hi0508 and can logging, hi0508 isnt my username hi0508@t-mobilethuis.nl is my username.

This is what i want to know.

You didnt get my point.

With v 19.12 i dont have any problems the wizard is showing username hi0508 when i press ready it connect to the server see youtube movie

When the wizard sets the username to hi0508, in Menu icon > Preferences > Privacy & Security, password the username is set h..... @t-mobilethuis.nl by Thunderbird.

When i at a gmail account to thunderbird the wizard set the whole email address as username, but with t-mobile only hi0508.

Username hi0508 is set by the wizard in Thunderbird 19.12 and logs into the server.

Username hi0508 is set by the wizard in Thunderbird 102.1.2 and doesnt log in.

This is my question and u also see this in the youtube movies.

And my last question, why doesnt the wizard fill in the whole email address as username? why only the 1st half of the email address?

With a gmail account the wizard filles in the whole email address.

I get your point. But I'm not seeing why this is a problem because everything is working when you do what your t-mobilethuis.nl ISP tells you to use. People usually have a problem when they use the ISP or whatever server settings and it fails.

In v 102.1.2 - When you use the settings that t-mobilethuis.nl advise it works.

In version 91*, it still seems to still accept the first part of username although you still had to update everything else. You will probably discover it also accepts the full email address.

re: why doesnt the wizard fill in the whole email address as username? why only the 1st half of the email address?

As I've already stated - Because Thunderbird does not know all the various servers and their server settings in the world. It currently has the old settings which t-mobilethuis.nl used before they offered a more secure server and no one from t-mobilethuis.nl has advised Thunderbird of any updates, however the updates and settings that should be used are on the t-mobilethuis.nl website and they work. That's why you have to edit the settings to a secure setting eg: port and connection Security and also the user name to full email address.

You need to understand, it is not Thunderbird who accepts or declines access to server using a specific username - it is the server - t-mobilethuis.nl

Getting back to your initial problem: I did a clean install windows 11 21H2, installed Thunderbird 102.1.1 and later 102.1.2 in the wizard i copyed my password and all the other info imap, after pressing ready checking password keeps on checking noting happens. My password is correct and also all the other setting.

The easy answer is this. Thunderbird has not been informed by t-mobilethuis.nl of current server settings and so it finds an old set from it's database. This means you need to edit the port and the connection security, check the Authentication is correctly setup and edit username to full email address - so everything is as t-mobilethuis.nl has said it must be.

Why did it fails - You had edited the port etc but you were using the old username and not the username now required by t-mobilethuis.nl .

It was not failing due to the password as you said that was correct.

When something fails it means one of the following is failing: The server settings are incorrect. The password is wrong, but the user name and server settings are correct. The password is wrong, the user name is wrong but the rest of the server settings are correct. The password is correct, the rest of the server settings are correct , but the username is wrong. All of which will return a password failure because either password does not match the server settings or it does not match with expected username or vis versa.

Thanks for the explanation,

"In version 91*, it still seems to still accept the first part of username although you still had to update everything else. You will probably discover it also accepts the full email address." This was also the question, why version 91.x does accept the first part of the email address and version 102.x does not. I only need to update the port set to 993 SSL/TLS.

Because I was used to it for years that Thunderbird version 91.x fills in and accepts the first part of the email address, I assumed there was a bug in version 102.x

I have a similar problem but my issue is ONLY for gmail accounts. All other accounts work. This only occurred with the new version on a clean install of Windows 11.

The accounts get stuck at the password confirmation, and everything is as it should be (oauth2, AV / FW turned off, etc).

I cannot at all add an existing gmail account. No matter what I do. I've uninstalled, reinstalled, deleted, etc. Nothing is working.

When you post a comment in someone else's question, you are only asking for help from the person who created the question. Your situation will be entirely different because you are asking about creating a gmail account. First check the following as these are the basic necessities.

  • Does the Firewall have Thunderbird set up as an allowed program? It must be set up as allowed.
  • Do you have a VPN switched on? If yes, switch it off.
  • Do you have any other program using the 'localhost' channel like Apache? If yes, it needs to be switched off until the oauth token has been successfully installed.
  • In Thunderbird do you have cookies allowed ? Setting > Privacy & Security > Under 'Web Content'
  • select 'Accept cookies from sites'
  • In exceptions enter the following and set as 'allow' : https://accounts.google.com
  • click on 'save changes'

If still a problem Please ask your own question as the person who asked the question may not be able to assist.
