Becoming impossible to use websites
Reached the end of my tether. Recently Firefox has been stopping me loading up certain websites in full. For instance BBC Sounds - the play buttons won't work. Times and Guardian comments won't load.
Now flickr will not let me log in using Firefox.
This only happens with Firefox "pure". If I use private browsing, I don't have a problem.
It's nothing to do with addons; I've disabled all those. I've followed all of the instructions on the solve page; no effect. And even Firefox itself won't let me log in, saying that cookies need to be enabled; well, again, I've done everything that the website suggests, and it reads exactly as the website suggests, but nothing.
I confess I'm not good with these things so need pretty close instructions. But I've no idea why it's getting worse and worse. There was a power cut earlier but that seems as a side-effect to have thrown me out of flickr - and every time I try to log back in the site just sits there with address and password filled in.

try testing the issue in windows safemode
Sorry - should have said, I have a Mac. Don't have problems with Firefox in a Windows setting, or with Safari.
Hello vastarena
Try clearing Cookies and Sites data
Click the menu button. and select Options. Preferences. Select the Privacy & Security panel and go to the Cookies and Site Data section. Click the Clear Data button. The Clear Data dialog will appear. Click Clear.
Thanks RageE1der - have tried that but it's made no difference, still getting the problem. It's as if there's something wrong with cookies that's interrupting some websites.
For instance if I log into the Times website it doesn't look as it should. The headlines and text should be in Times New Roman and they are not. Also I can't see comments (same as on The Guardian) which run off different software.
And if I try to log into Mozilla itself I get:
Cookies and local storage are required
Cookies are still disabled
Please enable cookies and local storage in your browser to access Firefox Accounts. Doing so will enable functionality such as remembering you between sessions. Yet the settings are all as recommended. I can't find a simple option to "enable" cookies.
Try safe mode: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode I always run a check on partitions which were mounted during a power outage. The command on Linux is fsck and the partitions being checked have to be unmounted while being checked. You could try another profile: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-remove-switch-firefox-profiles
OK, have tried safe mode. This is what I get on the Guardian website:
There was a problem with the captcha process. You may find disabling your browser plugins, ensuring JavaScript is enabled or updating your browser will resolve this issue.
On flickr:
Oops, something went wrong (and a link to connectivity issues)
And on Mozilla:
Cookies and local storage are required
Please enable cookies and local storage in your browser to access Firefox Accounts. Doing so will enable functionality such as remembering you between sessions.
Does that help pinpoint what I'm doing wrong? And what I can do instead?
It's not the power outage that's caused the problem - what that did is throw me out of my flickr login and now I cannot log back in.
Hi Vastarena
Your best option would be to refresh Firefox. see this article on how to refresh Firefox. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/refresh-firefox-reset-add-ons-and-settings
Hi Rage1Elder - I think that's worked, after doing it twice. I will keep an eye on it though. Many thanks. :)
