open a new window for google search using context menu (insteat of a new tab)

hello, if I mark any text in a browser window and use the context menu (using right mouse button) "google search" the result is opened in a new tab. But I would prefer a new window. No posibilities in FF-Settings, nor does Google setting "new window" work. Any suggestions? tks

You can look at browser.link.open_newwindow prefs on the about:config page.

  • browser.link.open_newwindow = 3 [1:current tab; 2:new window; 3:new tab]

For JavaScript window.open() links:

  • browser.link.open_newwindow.restriction = 0 [0:divert always; 1:divert never; 2:divert w/o features]

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.

Hi johanoza, is this a special exception, that context menu searches should open in a new window instead of a new tab, or is that your general preference, that everything should open in a new window?

If you prefer everything to open in a new window, there are extensions that will "detach" any new tab that shows up in a window to its own window. For example, I have one here: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/i-hate-tabs-sdi-for-firefox/
