Can I only download certain folders/dates for emails?
I love T-bird and would willingly pay for it (I run my own business and no other system can compete) but I have too many emails and they slow down my laptop. Is there anyway of keeping some of my folders or dated messages in the cloud and only downloading the folders I choose or dates I choose?
Secondly, my desktop allows me to select a message, read the preview pane and move on without marking it as read but when I've more recently downloaded T-bird onto my laptop it automatically marks it as read.
Please help! Sophie

As a head's up...when you select an email to read, it opens the email in the 'Message Pane'. Please note this is not a preview, you have opened the email.
Secondly, my desktop allows me to select a message, read the preview pane and move on without marking it as read but when I've more recently downloaded T-bird onto my laptop it automatically marks it as read.
Menu app icon > Options > Options > Display > 'Advanced' tab You will probably have these settings: Selected: 'Automatically mark messages as read' Selected: 'Immediately upon display'
Uncheck the 'Automatically mark messages as read' option and nothing will get marked as read.

You can change IMAP synchronisation settings to limit the number of messages that get downloaded in full and reduce disk usage. See IMAP Synchronization
If you're using v78, go to Options, use the searchbox at the top and search for read to find the options you need to change.
Hi there, thanks v much - I've done the top issue re synchronization but can't do the read one. I'm using version 68 and there aren't any updates to do but when I go into Options there isn't a search box? Thanks very much!
