Installing Firefox Causes Windows 10 Home 1809 Update to Fail When it Previously Worked

more options

Recently purchased a Dell G3 3770 laptop with Win10 Home (1809). Before loading Firefox I ran Windows Update and it ran great. Loaded Office 2003 and a game I play and Norton Security and tried Win Update and it ran OK. Loaded Firefox and went thru the struggle with Edge insisting it was my best browser before I turned of suggestions and Firefox worked fine. Ran Win Update and failed, returning error msg "we couldn't connect to the update service. We'll try again later or you can check now. If it still doesn't work, make sure you are connected to the internet.". Unloaded Firefox and no joy. After running the Windows-included update troubleshooter and numerous command prompt troubleshooting actions and several troubleshooting programs from Microsoft, I did a windows reset and could connect to the download site again. Reloaded Office 2003 and a game I play and Norton Security and Win update worked good and downloaded an additional update. Loaded Firefox, rebooted and Win Update fails again. Unloaded Firefox, no good. Once again reset Windows, reloaded Office 2003 and a game I play and Norton Security an Win Update works good. Loaded Firefox, it fails. Did all this once more with same result and it seems that Firefox is the long pole in the tent for this failure. Any ideas? Thanks! Gene

Hi Gene, it's very odd because Windows doesn't use Firefox for anything, so why should it be affected so drastically? I have no idea.

But there was another report after yours that sounds similar. Maybe you two could compare notes?
