Can't close tabs or go back at x's

I can't x out of a tab at times. I keep pushing the x with no luck. Sometimes if I touch the lower part of the screen ( Quick launch), it closes. The back arrow sometimes returns to the same screen again. Even after several attempts it stays on the current screen instead of backing up one screen.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?
