I am the admin for my computer yet Firefox says i don't rights to update.
Hi.. the computer is mine and i am admin yet when there are updates to be installed i'm told by FF the updates are available but i don't have the right to update and i need to ask the administrator. I have it on auto update setting but have to do it manually due to lack of authority. Really don't know what i can do. I have 3 computers and think i have seen this message on 2 of them. I have given admin rights to my son but i would expect on my login that FF should recognise my rights as admin. As far as i recall the computer i'm sending this message on is ok... Thanks....

Hi Riley103 , In order to check the rights to the Firefox program, it is possible to right click on the Firefox icon and check the properties.
Make sure that the listed account that you have is set to Full Control.
There are two ways to updare:
- From the About Firefox menu
- Checking for updates in the about:prefrences
If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then best is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox application and save the disk image file to the desktop
- Firefox 42.0: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
- Trash the current Firefox application (open the Applications folder in the Finder and drag the Firefox application to the Trash) to do a clean (re)install
- Install the new version that you have downloaded

Your personal data like bookmarks is stored in the Firefox profile folder, so you won't lose personal data when you uninstall and (re)install or update Firefox, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.

Thank you guigs for taking time to reply. I presume right clicking the Firefox icon is for Windows? I have Mac computers however i did try double clicking to see if anything happened in the way of showing properties but nothing came up. I did / do already have the preferences set to auto update and i am the admin so that's what made it strange. I have had another reply suggesting i reinstall Firefox. I will give that a try. Cheers.

This seems like a good idea, thank you, and i will give it a go. I did wonder about this myself , when i instal FF i have used an old disc with a very early version and then let it update itself, might not be the best way to do it. Seemed fine on the computer with 10.6 and although the browser has worked well on 10.7 and 10.10 the permissions have been a problem.
