While trying to update my video player I clicked on "file" and then the download and all I got was a window full of computer language with no "run" option.

To jscher2000~I did what you said and it says "Media player could not be verified for use in Firefox. Proceed with caution." My husband told me to just delete it so I think I'll do that. Thanks for your help! Have a good day.

I don't understand where you are clicking on "file" or what video player you are trying to update. Please explain further and furnish a link to the website where you are trying to download the update.

It sounds that you didn't download the file, but opened it in a Firefox tab instead. That can happen if the server isn't configured properly.

You can right-click the link and use "Save Link As".

Try this:

  • Download the installer and save the file to the desktop
  • Start the installation with a double-click on the desktop icon

I did what you said and it still looks the same-no "run" option, just a bunch of letters and numbers. Thanks for your help.

Which video player are you trying to update?

Could you look something up for me: who is the publisher of this extension that was listed in your Question Details > More System Details: MediaPlayer 3.3.2

You can check that on the Add-ons page, either:

  • Cmd+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then it should be listed on the right, look for a More link for more information.

Just want to make sure this is legit and not some kind of malware, since most media players are plugins and not extensions.

To follow up on that last post, when I search the extension ID, it does look problematic:

Based on the above I'll mark this question solved. If you have problems removing the extension from your Firefox Add-ons Extensions list, see Disable or remove Add-ons or post back for more help.
