Initially Firefox worked fine on my computer. Then a couple of weeks ago Firefox started locking up my computer and I had to reboot every time I started Firefox. I uninstalled Firefox and downloaded current version. I run the installation program and it gets to the point where it gives me a choice to run as Administrator or Current User. I choose Current User as I am the Administrator with Administrator rights. When I click OK the window goes away and nothing else happens. I have read several answers to this problem and followed the download links but none have produced an install download that actually installs Firefox. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium and Avast AntiVirus. Google Chrome is working fine on this machine.

Try this instead:

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) to see if that helps.

It is possible that your firewall or other security software blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to install for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
