How do I remove the search engines selection from the search bar search as you type?

From the last update when I type in the search field, all possible search engines are visible and it's very confusing to use now. This is also a duplicated functionality as I see that search engine selection is still available next to the search icon.

Is there a way to disable showing all available search engines in the "search as you type" results?

Running on Ubuntu.

Please do not respond with an antibot question or answer, the sole purpose is that I see if this is possile or not before switching to another browser. Seems firefox latest updates are based mostly on some subjective opinions of individuals rather than on user wishes. Such a shame for such a good browser.

Best regards, and thanks in advance.

You can find the Search tab to modify the search engines in Options/Preferences between Tabs and Content in the current release.

If you want to restore the previously used standalone window to manage search engines then you can toggle this pref to false with a middle-click on the about:config page.

  • about:config page: browser.search.showOneOffButtons = false

You need to close and restart Firefox to make this work properly.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

Thanks for a straight forward answer, and for reading my question fully.

"KIS." The most important rule in design is (or should be): KEEP IT SIMPLE.

Wouldn't it be terrific if the computer industry would just STOP fixing what isn't broken? Please, please, please STOP making gratuitous changes and just make the software perform consistently AS IS on all platforms.

That would be a genuine and welcome improvement.
