I get sent regular emails from Ebay on auctions that look interesting to me, when I click on the item to get directed to ebay, firefox sends a message that says "firefox prevented this page from automatically redirecting to another page" then there is an X box and an allow option. It comes up regularly and can get annoying. It started when I downloaded the latest version of Firefox. Thank you

Hi marybrenda, is the Pref bar an add-on? You shouldn't need to use an add-on to access the Options dialog (Windows name) or Preferences dialog (Mac & Linux name).

The "3-bar" menu button usually appears toward the right end of the main toolbar, and has an icon of 3 heavy horizontal lines ().

You can turn off that feature globally. (I don't know how it got turned on if it was off before...)

Open the Preferences dialog using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Preferences
  • (menu bar) Firefox > Preferences

On the top row click Advanced, then the General mini-tab.

Uncheck the box for "Warn me when websites try to redirect or reload the page"

Then click OK

Well I had to have my 21 year old son show me the "3 bar" on the menu because I have never had to use it before! I know there is a reason he is around. Thank you

QUESTION OWNER:

I would like to know where I find the Pref bar or the 3- bar. I downloaded the Pref bar, but then you say on top row to click Advanced, then the General mini-tab.

Please help I cannot or don't understand your instructions.

It would be most helpful if you could clarify. Thank you!

Regards,

This is about changing a setting in the Firefox preferences in "Tools > Options > Advanced > General" You can tap the Alt key or press F10 to show the Menu Bar if you can't find Options elsewhere.

See:

  • Firefox > Options/Preferences > Advanced > General : Accessibility : [ ] "Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page"

The setting in "Options > Advanced > General" is meant as an accessibility feature, as you can see by the label of that section, so that people with disabilities or people who use screen readers do not get confused and is not meant as a safety protection to stop redirecting.
