I tried accessing the support web site to ask a question about the 29.0.1 update and nothing happened when I clicked on the green "Ask this" button. Ridiculous as it sounds, I had to resort to Internet Explorer, the most useless, vulnerable browser on the planet. Pretty sad that we are presented with another version of Firefox that doesn't even work with it's own support website !! What a crock.

That pretty much sums up the types of bugs that have happened in every release of Firefox since version 27. Lots of unnecessary interface redesign, but the substantive stuff ends up screwy and we have to wait for someone to build add-ons to fix them.

My original question was really a suggestion that you might want to consult with your users before you remove or redesign functionality that has been available for many years. New and different is not always good just because it is new and different. Making needless changes and removing flexibility makes you look more like Microsoft than Mozilla.

You can start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

You can check for problems with modified preferences.

Delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

While you are in safe mode;
Firefox Options > Advanced > General.
Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.
Poke around safe web sites and see if there is still a problem. Then restart.
