I have a Mac OS 10.6.8. For over a year Silverlight worked fine for streaming Netflicks, but one day suddenly told me I had to install Silverlight again. Every time I tried, I was told there was a "newer version" already on the computer - tried doing everything I could find on-line to fix the problem including deleting all Silverlight files- nothing worked. Read that some Mac users could get Silverlight to work using Firefox, so I tried installing that through the free download. Got as far as the "drag the Firefox icon into the Applications folder." When I drag the icon, nothing happens. The Apps folder will not accept it. So now what?

Here are the instructions for installing Firefox on Mac OS:

You said that using Silverlight for NetFlix worked fine for over a year and then suddenly you got a message that you needed to install Silverlight ... but the Silverlight site said you already had the latest version. Not sure what was happening there but our Silverlight installation instructions are here, Use the Silverlight plugin to play audio and video

You can check your Silverlight plugin version on the Silverlight installation page. You can also use Mozilla's Plugin Check page, which will also detect other installed plugins:

Do you already have a Silverlight plugin installed?

You may first have to remove an already installed version of the plugin.

Did you verify in "Tools > Add-ons > Plugins" if there is a Silverlight plugin installed (possibly disabled)?

You can also try to repair the disk permissions:

I did a search on Microsoft's site and found this question that Zoe6892 asked on June 15, 2012, which may help you:

Netflix/ Silverlight /Mac problem ( Installation says I already have a newer version)

Hi, and thanks to all of you who offered suggestions, but essentially I had already tried everything (deleting all Silverlight files including receipts, installing with Firefox and with Safari, reading all the posts on the microsoft blog, etc) and none of it has worked. I even updated Flip4Mac WMV when I read a post that it is now owned by Microsoft and Silverlight is part of the package... Well, not quite. Once it's downloaded you have to install Flip4Mac and Silverlight separately. No problem update Flip but same exact problem w/ Silverlight - When it gets to the step of "choosing a location" it tells me it can't install because "a newer version already exists on this disk." The only thing I haven't tried is the repair process. I think before I do that I want to buy an external drive to back everything up cause it makes me a little nervous.
