There are sites that will not open in Firefox that will open in Chrome...what is the problem?
In Firefox I cannot get into my webpage of my website company. After speaking with several techs on told me to download Chrome and try it through that browser. He said Firefox runs slow and pages can time out. He was right with Chrome I have no problems at all accessing my website builder to make updates and changes...what's up with Firefox?

On problematic sites, Please try a Ctrl + F5 refresh. You may also have to Clear Now the Cache, Site Preferences , and Cookies with Time range to clear set to Everything via Tools (Alt + T) > Clear Recent History.
If problems persist, you can also reset Firefox and start afresh.
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
- Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
- Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
- Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
- Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

If you would like to save a listing of your add-ons, important modified preferences/settings etc. to quickly replicate the previous profile, please Copy all to clipboard (on the left of the reset button), and paste it into Office Excel, or OpenOffice/LibreOffice Calc, or notepad. However, it would be a good idea to check for the existence of the issue immediately after the reset.
Thanks for that quick reply, unfortunately everything you suggest has been tried...and then some. I've even had my internet supplier do a dns resolver cash and I've done a netsh-winsock reset. Firefox still will time out but Chrome loads the website manager fine.
If it's an internet facing site (public), could you please post a link?

Try to rename or delete the prefs.js file and possible numbered prefs-##.js files and a possible user.js file to reset all prefs to the default values.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

You can also try to reset Firefox.
If you reset Firefox then a new profile is created and some of your data (bookmarks, passwords, cookies, form data) is automatically imported and your current profile will be moved to the desktop (Old Firefox Data).
You can recover more data from the old profile (be cautious with doing that).

dumdidadida, it is not an internet facing site. cor-el, the reset of Firefox and reset of preferences has all been tried.
Hello 1ststarlite, if you don't already do, try to delete the cookies.sqlite file and any cookies.sqlite-journal files in profile folder(in case cookies are corrupted), see how to do that : Remove corrupt cookies file

ideato, I looked into the files you mention. There is a file cookies.sqlite there are also files; cookies.sqlite-shm and cookies.sqlite-wal but no -journal files.
What is going to happen if I delete the sqlite file?
cookies.sqlite-shm and cookies.sqlite-wal files disappear when Firefox closes because used in a session only to "help" handling the cookies.sqlite file

when you delete the cookies.sqlite file a new one created when restart firefox, also you can rename the file to cookies.sqlite.old if you want.

ideato, Did all...still no luck. I think I'm resigning myself to just use chrome to get to the management of my website.

The web hosting company is BlueHost...I can get to it fine and login to my main control panels. Within BlueHost's control panel containing the website builders portion the one I use is Weebly, when I click on it the Weebly page come up with my login, it's when I click on my login that the problem occurs in that it never takes me to my website but sits there and then times out both in Firefox and Explorer. When using Chrome it all goes through fine.
You cannot try to open it because I would have to give login passwords.
is it redirect problem ? in Firefox button > Options > Options > Advanced panel > General tab > Accessibility > UNCHECK "Warn me when websites try to redirect or reload the page" [ ].
That has always been unchecked.
If BlueHost uses cPanel for it web hosting control panel the problem isn't brand new, we have seen reports of problems with cPanel since like Firefox 13. or 14.0 was released. You may want to do a search of this forum for cPanel and see if anyone came up with a fix or a patch.
The original poster gave very few details. My question to you is: does your URL start with https?
I submitted a question last night - which doesn't appear in this list yet, btw - because I downgraded to 17.0.1 from 3.5 and now many things don't work, including Google's ReCaptcha - at least through https.
It turns out that any embedded https links (CSS, JS, etc.) which do not already have explicit permission FAIL TO BE EXECUTED by FF17 (and at least FF14) and newFF (since when? FF8?) also does not ask the user if they'd like to add an exception for any of those servers - it just skips doing anything with those links.
The only solutions if you want to keep using newFF seems to be find those links, manually open them in new tabs, give them permission, then go back to the original tab and refresh. Or upgrade to a newer, working non-FF browser.
The only way I could tell this is by using Firebug, inspecting the recaptcha-holding element, and see text within the script tag like "Reload the page to see the source for https..." - which of course doesn't actually do anything.
So 1ststarlite, are you using https?
P.S. In fact on this very website, https://support.mozilla.org/, the icon doesn't display in the FF tab because apparently I haven't gone to https://support.cdn.mozilla.net/media/img/favicon.ico in a separate tab yet!

They are https BUT they do open all the way until I get to my actual login for my website. I just tried opening each in a new tab...nothing different.
I'm going to just remove Firefox from this computer and use Chrome, perhaps in the future I'll try Firefox again to see if they've worked out the bugs of 17.0.1
