The only way I can describe the problem is with two jpgs I have.

The first is a screenprint of the Sky Sports match page loaded on Internet Explorer. The second is a screenprint the same page loaded on Firefox 12. This affects othe popular sites like Yahoo.

The pages do not load properly. That is all I am able to say. The jpgs would show you why! .As I cannot upload the jpgs here this is the best I can offer. The pictures load small. The page looks like a text file and loads everything like CSS coding on the left.

It is perfect on IE, Chrome and Opera. This has only just happened.

Thank you.

You can attach images if you go ahead and reply to your own question.

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

1. Clear Firefox's Cache

orange Firefox button or Tools menu > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Offline Storage : "Clear Now"

2. If needed, delete the site's cookies here

While viewing a page on the site, right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

It happens on almost EVERY major site except two - SkySports, Wikipedia, thesaurus.com, BBC, Yahoo, Virginmedia etc etc, all virtually text pages! .......except it does not happen on Facebook or YouTube (the only sites) It does not happen on every page on SkySports, just most of them.

It stops me logging into my webmail on Virginmedia . It seems almost as if the Java is not working, but that is right up to date.

I've noticed sometimes a page does not lay out correctly on the first try, but does lay out correctly on a reload (Ctrl+r or the circle-arrow button in the url bar). I'm not sure what causes it; it seems as though loading of the style sheet might have been interrupted somehow. If you reload, does that make any difference?

Regarding Java, and JavaScript, most sites do not use Java (used for individual applets) but most sites DO use JavaScript. You can verify that JavaScript is enabled under:

orange Firefox button or classic Tools menu > Options > Content

If you run the NoScript extension, an add-on which blocks all scripts until you approve them, of course, you will also need to click or mouseover its "S" icon to verify whether scripts are allowed to run on the site.

If you can't post a screen shot of this, can it be demonstrated by printing the page to a PDF? If you don't already have Acrobat or another PDF creation tool, you can use PrimoPDF to print to PDF from any Windows application (free), or the "Print pages to Pdf" add-on for Firefox.

Thanx4 coming back. No, it does not even reload.

Regarding screen prints, I have managed to save this to MS paint and attach it below. Pretty netscapey isn't it? Should be all flash with blue colour and photos. Yahoo is even worse. The worst thing is I can't even log into my webmail on Virgin.

Thanx. Will

The Sky Sports page should look like this.....

Can you also attach a screenshot of how you see the page with Firefox?

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

I did..... but it does not seem to have attached above! Here it is again. The irony is IE won't load the screenshot here but FF will.

I'm having a similar problem with FF16. It's as if the style sheet(s) aren't being loaded. In fact, if I use FireBug to look at the <link> tag in the loaded code, it indicates that the css file didn't load. Also, the URL is a relative address (like "/css/global.css") BUT if I edit the address (again, using FireBug [because I don't have access to the server]) to make it a fully realized URL (like "http://www.somedomain.com/css/global.css"), then the page displays properly.

So, apparently FireFox is having a problem traversing relative paths. BTW: the same page displays find in IE and Chrome!

I attached two screen shots. One from Chrome (displayed properly) and one from FireFox (a mess).

FireFox is my favorite browser, so I hope this problem is solved soon -- I'm not fond of having to dump my cache every time this occurs!!!

If you use extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) like Adblock Plus or NoScript or Flash Block that can block content then make sure that such extensions aren't blocking content.

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.
