Only since about 17th April,2012 - when I sign in to webmail, or forums, I get a message that I'm signed in. I then try to actually do something, like read or edit a mail or add a post. The site takes me back to login screen, or says "You need to be logged in to do this". It happens in Firefox and Internet Explorer. Noticed Adobe ran update about this time. Have scanned for viruses, malware, but no problems found. 64bit Windows 7 with 4gb RAM. Logging in to buyer account today, entered password, screen refreshed with blank password field. ADSL 2+ provider says it is not their fault. Have looked at privacy and security options, but see nothing strange there.

You may have security software (firewall) that is blocking cookies if it happens in other browser as well, so check the advanced setting in your firewall.

Thanks Cor-el, Turned off firewall altogether, but it makes no difference. Have noticed that the problem does not seem to be affecting E-bay or my bank. I imagine they have a more sophisticated way of security checking the log on. My email sometimes ignores the log on, other times lets me in without trouble, or lets me mark mail for deletion, then when I try to purge, throws me out without acting on the purge. Cheers, Mike
