I have the default Google search home page. For the last 3 updates, I see your Firefox Beta is out of date on the home page. I just downloaded and installed 12.0b2. I have Options/Advanced/Update - auto on. Help about shows I am on Firefox Beta 12. (note not 12.0b2)

Beta versions are supposed to behave as regular release versions to test for website (browser detection) problems and do not have extra data appended to the user agent.
You can either check the build date on the Help > Troubleshooting Information page or access the Build from link on the about:buildconfig page or check the update history (Options > Advanced > Update)

Aurora and Nightly work differently and also show the build date in the Gecko version to facilitate in bug reporting.

I check Firefox.exe properties , details, and the product version is 12.0. Is this the right product version for the Beta 12.0b2?

I believe you have Firefox 12 beta 2, the latest beta version is 12.0 beta 3.

For all betas the Help dialog does not show the beta number. The way to find the beta number is a bit convoluted.

In the Help menu select "Troubleshooting Information", then in the page that appears click on "about:buildconfig". An alternative method is to type in "about:buildconfig" in the location bar.

On the about:buildconfig page click on the link where it says "Built from", that page will show the beta number.

My software for the most part updates automatically when I click the icon to start it from my taskbar, I check every so often to make sure I am on the latest beta release. For example, I just did the Firefox > Help > About & it started downloading 20.1MB update. It's Beta, just goes to show you that its not as smooth as we'd like it to be like release versions yet, lol.

My current observations are, my Google home page will show its out of date, while in the meantime, it is updating itself. My original problem statement is wrong! The user agent string is wrong; however, TonyE explanation is explains who to find the real Beta version helped me with that.

User-agent header: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:12.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/12.0. I guess there are good reasons not show the real Beta version in the user agent string. Thanks for the replies, they all helped!
