I have Firefox 4 in my Ubuntu partition of my laptop and Firefox 5 on the Windows Vista side of that partion.

I haven't intalled Firefox for Mobile on my phone yet, but I like the idea. However the home page that I have in Ubuntu as actually a collection of three pages and, I don't really want to use on any other device. I really don't want to visit any of those three pages on my phone.

Which option would prevent me syncing my home page? Where do I find this option? Which is the best device to access it from?

There are services.sync.prefs.sync prefs related to which prefs to sync and you can set the corresponding services.sync pref to false to prevent syncing that pref.

You can set the pref services.sync.prefs.sync.browser.startup.homepage to false on the about:config page.

See:

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

  • Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
  • Preferences that have been modified show as bold(user set).
  • Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.

Thank you so much for this reply. It came as quickly, if not more so than a paid service and was absolutely spot on. You've also taught me that searches in the Mozilla web site don't find all word forms. I'd tried searching for prevent sync, I don't want to sync my Home page and one or two more. There weren't any search results for any of them. Sorry to have bothered you. I've seen other posts by you and I'd like to thank you for all you do for users of Firefox.

Firefox Sync does not actually sync preferences between desktop and mobile. Bookmarks/tabs/history/passwords will sync between desktop and mobile, but prefs will sync only from one desktop to another, or from one mobile device to another.
