I first noticed this problem while trying to update plugins. Flash's "automatic download" never starts. Clicking download links directly, nothing happens at all. I've gone through every option in firefox's "unable to download or save files" troubleshooting, as well as Flash's troubleshooting on the subject. Can't find any solutions on google. Also having possibly unrelated problems with the cursor randomly moving out of where I am typing, or up/down two or three lines or text. Not sure what else to do. Thanks

Click the Firefox button, go to Options | Options | Advanced and in the Network tab | Offline Storage menu, click the "Clear Now" button.

Incidentally, you need to update a couple of plugins.

Thank you, but this did nothing. Clicking 'clear now' gives no indication as to what it did. Going to the flash page you linked, clicking 'download now', redirected to page that says 'your download will start automatically', and... nothing. Same with the Shockwave link. Nothing downloads.

I'm having much the same problem with 4.1 on two different computers on completely different networks. The only thing they have in common is Win XP sp3.

It happens on various links all over the web i.e. nothing happens when I clink on the link. These links all work with V3.6.17 and I've tried all suggested fixes I could find so far. Updated everything, deleted folders and reinstalled etc. but nothing works.

This browser is un-usable and HORRIBLE period. Had to go back to V3.6.17 but couldn't get that from mozilla. This is some kind of sick joke. One that Firefox will pay dearly for.

Firefox caches the last 8 pages viewed so that during a browsing session, FF will look to the cache to load pages which is faster than going to the actual site. By clearing the cache, you delete that data.

Try running Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.
