Will not run video at wall street journal site

more options

Video on the Wall street journal site will not run. I am a online account holder. The first screen of the video shows and a circle of line scrolls over the face. This also occurs on the Market watch website which is a Wall street journal sister site. I do not have any other site that I access that will not allow videos to run. If I use Microsoft internet explorer as my browser the videos on these sites will run. I do not want to go back to using explorer but might be forced without help. Thanks you in advance for any help. Kim

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

I followed your instructions. In safe mode the problem still existed. I see others have the same problem.

Most other videos will work. WSJ videos will not start. The new version 6.0 does not help. It commented on startup that flash and some java scripts were not compatible. I complained to WSJ, but they blew me off. I am paying for an online account. My desktop computer seems to have no problem!

Troubleshooting add-ons in FF12 led to HTTPS Everywhere as the problem in my case. After disabling this add-on, WSJ videos are now playing normally.

Should also mention that the RealPlayer add-on for downloading videos caused a very similar but much more widespread problem in a different settings.... problems included no video play as well as issues with Flash-based sites, for instance, the speedtest.net site would not load properly so speed tests could not be executed. Had to disable that one, too.
