Does Firefox have a problem with the latest Flashplayer as it keeps telling me it needs updating, even after being updated

I am running Firefox 3.6.9 and have updated to Flashplayer 10.1 r53, but the system keeps telling me when I check for plugin updates that Flashplayer is vulnerable and a security risk??? I have contacted Adobe is that was a lot of help NOT Does anyone know what is going on with this program, besides having some very sophisticated reporting software installed within the program

The latest version of Flash is 10.1 r82

You can install it by using the manual installers, for details see http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/191/tn_19166.html#main_ManualInstaller

Thank you so very much, the manual update worked a treat, I was starting to get paranoid about this, it's so very nice to have someone give you an answer so very fast

Good Idea, but it did not work for me. I even tried pausing my virus protection.

Actually I was able to install 3.6.8 and flash with no problem. I ran into difficulty with 3.6.10 and 3.6.10

The obvious question is "what changed on my computer between those releases." For me it MIGHT have been the installation of Kaspersky Internet security 2011 (KIS '11). The '.8 through '.10 came out fairly close in time to each other. Around that time I installed and soon after upgraded from KIS '10 to KIS '11

I'm curious to know how many of the 34 people who reported having this issue, how many run Kaspersky and what version.

I'm not posting to give a solution, I don't have one. However, I hope that at the very least some ideas can be shared to help isolate the root cause. If the problem was widespread I figured Adobe and/or Firefox would have posted a solution by now. The more information we can provide Firefox the sooner these volunteer (yet excellent!) software engineers will provide us with a fix.

Thanks

Do you see the latest Flash 10.1 r82 version in Tools > Add-ons > Plugins ?

If not then you need to update.

My apologies, Lasaboy's advice is correct.

At first I only removed the Flash plugin for Firefox and ignored the ActiveX version used for MS Internet Explorer (IE8). That was my mistake.

Adobe instructs to users remove previous versionS (stress on the 'S' in versions..as in plural). After removing both Flash Players in control panel (ActiveX and Plugin) and manually reinstalling, Flash worked in Firefox and IE8.

Don't know if the order of reinstalling makes any difference, but I installed the plugin for Firefox first, then the ActiveX version for IE8.

Many people would rather forget about IE8, but I'll bet that everyone having problems with the manual install has IE8 on their machine (in the US, I don't think we have a choice) and is not removing an ActiveX version of Flash.

Hope this helps

@cor-el

This page if for those who already know they need to update, know how to using the regular procedure, but are unable to do so, because the regular method is not successfully installing Adobe Flash

The 3.6.8.version will not update. It locks up. ALSO the flash player is 10.1.r82, in the 3.6.8 version however if enabled will cause firefox to crash without any user intervention. Starts, loads approx 20 seconds, disappears. No problem with flash player and/or firefox until firefox update. Then all went to%$!!. Chrome is looking better all the time.
