Thanks, Sheila! I tried 2 system restores & 2 different virus scans before I found your answer! I hope wonderful things come your way for helping so many of us with this very annoying problem.

On my Mac Book Pro (Snow Leopard) it was shockwave flash plugin, disabling that stopped the wav.

Same problem here (firefox 3.6 ubuntu 10.04) Same solution works (I remove cool preview because I really do not use that)

Those of you who are talking about disabling Flash to fix this problem need to read Sheila' post from the first page:

It's Pac-Man's 30th Birthday today, and Google's homepage is a playable Pac-Man game around the Google logo. My boyfriend had the same problem, then I went to Google and was like Hey, it's Pac-Man! And then the siren started. He plays fine on my laptop, but for some reason the music is stuck on his computer.

All you have to do is disable the "Cool Previews" add on for firefox. Go to the "Tools" link at the top of the browser, go down to "Add Ons", go to the "Cool Previews", click "Disable". Then restart firefox and it should be fine!a

The Google homepage is using flash to play the PacMan music, so disabling Flash will work, but it's not the best solution.

Thanks so for the Help! I was going crazy!

Removing cool iris and cool preview did not help me. I ended up removing GOOGLE as my home page. That stopped it. Someone at Google needs to get fired!
