One of the websites I use sends out confirmation emails that i then forward to several other people. The website has decided to use a dark blue color for its emails, the same as its website background color. (website is thelott.com) I usually add a comment but my default text color is black.

Is there a way to easily override or change the background color when forwarding emails or better yet to automatically change and edits (which effectively is adding a comment to a forward email is) to my defaults rather than use the original email's values?

Unfortunately I cannot tell whether this only occurs happened with the latest update ( 78.12) as the emails from the website have only started to appear with the background set.

I think it would be easier to just forward the messages as plain text, which will send black text on a white background. If your default format is HTML, hold Shift when clicking the Forward button to send in plain text format.

Thank you for your answer. Your suggested solution removes all formatting. That of defeats the purpose. The emails have formatting showing entries in Lotto entries. Without the formatting it is actually pretty hard to read, each number in each game is on a new line.

I had considered going in and altering the HTML and copy & paste into a new message but that is a lot more work than I want to do.

I am starting to think that there is no solution in Thunderbird. Perhaps I can read it in inline a browser so I will have a lot more flexibility.

Have used Thunderbird since...well forever. (since windows3.1?)

You could try saving a message in html format (Ctr+S, Save as type, html), then attach it to a message. Recipients would then open the attachment in their browser. Forwarding as an (eml) attachment instead of Inline might allow the background of the attachment to not affect the background of the message body.

Thanks for the reply. OK went through a few iterations Saving it as an eml doesn't work. Well it does work to send it but when I view it the background of the message I send is the background of the attached email (not sure it should be though) and any text I add is in the default color (black) so is almost unreadable, because its a eml file it is viewed inline. If I was sure the mail readers did not display it inline then it would be OK. If I go to that trouble however I can change the color of any text and hope the reader can cope.

The attachment as a html file works and clicking on the attachment does in fact open in a browser. Those on Phones & pads will hopefully be able to handle it as well. Depends on how people have their phone setup as to what it will display with.

I am having a similar issue. When I forward an email, Thunderbold is changing the text color to white, the background is also white, so the receiver sees nothing. I have to send as plain text to retain black on white readability. Turns the email into boring old fashion 20th century DOS communication. How can we turn the background to plain old black?

Cheers, Kevin
